FAQ

Independent car buying advice and sourcing support for Melbourne, Bayside and beyond

Here are some of our frequently asked questions. Have a question not listed? Get in touch.

  • What does Puredrive do?

A car buying service helps you purchase a car.  We use expert industry knowledge to help you find the right type of car that perfectly suits your life and can stretch your budget to negotiate you a better deal than you thought possible.  Additionally, we can get you a great price on your trade-in, organise your finance and insurance.

  • How is Puredrive different from a normal car broker?

Many car brokers focus mainly on finding a vehicle or negotiating a deal through dealer networks.

Puredrive starts earlier in the decision-making process. We help you work out what is actually worth buying before you commit. That includes model choice, specification, quality, reliability considerations, depreciation, usability, ownership costs and whether the car suits your real life.

We are not tied to one manufacturer or dealership. Our role is to act on the buyer’s side, provide independent advice, and help you make a more informed decision.

  • What is included in the Vehicle Advice & Shortlist Consultation?

The Vehicle Advice & Shortlist Consultation is designed for buyers who want clarity before they commit.

We discuss your budget, driving habits, lifestyle, family or business needs, ownership plans, finance or leasing considerations, and any specific vehicles you are considering.

From there, we help narrow the field and provide practical advice on suitable makes, models, variants and buying options. This may include new, demonstrator or pre-owned vehicles, as well as guidance on what to avoid and whether a specific car is worth pursuing.

  • How much does the consultation cost?

Unlike most brokers who have a standardised approach and fee structure for all clients, at Puredrive we think everyone has their own way in which they would ideally like to buy a car that makes it stress free for them.

Most brokers have existing relationships with car dealers, when they are searching for a car they go to their preferred dealers first.  Puredrive only has relationships with its clients, it does not take a commission from dealerships like many other brokers. Puredrive always works to get the best deal for the client only.

  • Is the consultation fee offset if I proceed with sourcing?

    Yes.

If you proceed to Puredrive’s full vehicle sourcing service, the $385 consultation fee will be offset against the full sourcing fee.

That means the initial consultation can either stand alone as professional advice, or become the first step in a more complete vehicle search and purchase support process.

  • What is included in Full Vehicle Sourcing & Purchase Support?

Full Vehicle Sourcing & Purchase Support is for buyers who want Puredrive to help find and secure the right car.

Once the brief is clear, we search the market, compare suitable vehicles, assess price, condition, specification and value, and help guide the purchase process.

Depending on the brief, this may include dealer, private seller or specialist market searches, negotiation support, inspection coordination, trade-in or sale considerations, finance or leasing liaison, and delivery or handover support.

For more involved searches, Puredrive can also help you look over vehicles in person, get a feel for condition and presentation, attend a test drive, or compare a few options before you commit, where practical.

  • Can you help if I do not know what car to buy?

Yes. In many cases, that is the best time to speak with us.

A lot of buyers start with a vague idea, a shortlist that is too broad, or several vehicles that seem similar but have very different ownership implications.

We help narrow the options by looking at how you will actually use the car, what matters to you, what your budget should realistically buy, and which vehicles are likely to make the most sense over time.

  • Can you help if I already know exactly what I want?

    Yes.

If you already know the model, colour, specification or budget, Puredrive can help assess the market, compare available examples, identify stronger and weaker vehicles, and assist with the buying process.

This is particularly useful when the vehicle is hard to find, prices vary widely, condition matters, or you want experienced support before committing.

  • Do you only help with new cars?

Puredrive assists with new, demonstrator and pre-owned vehicles, but we are particularly useful when the right car is not the obvious one sitting on a dealer’s forecourt.

We specialise in helping buyers find and assess the kinds of cars many ordinary brokers do not spend much time on — prestige vehicles, specialist models, enthusiast cars, older premium vehicles, harder-to-find specifications and carefully selected pre-owned examples where history, condition, ownership costs and model knowledge really matter.

In some cases, a well-chosen pre-owned vehicle may offer a better ownership proposition than a newer car that is more expensive, more complex or less suited to the buyer.

  • Can you come with me to look at cars?

    Yes

Some cars need to be experienced in person. Photos, advertisements and specification sheets only tell part of the story.

Depending on the vehicle, location and level of support required, Puredrive can help you look over a car, get a feel for its condition and presentation, attend a test drive, ask the right questions, and compare a few options before you commit.

For mechanical, structural or specialist technical checks, we can also help coordinate an independent pre-purchase inspection or liaise with your chosen mechanic.

  • Can you help with finance, leasing, insurance or trade-ins?

Puredrive can help you think through how finance, novated leasing, insurance, trade-in value, sale options, mechanical preparation or disposal of your current vehicle may affect the overall buying decision.

We can also assist where a vehicle is being replaced after an accident, write-off, theft or insurance payout.

Where needed, we can work alongside your existing finance provider, accountant, leasing company, broker, insurer or mechanic. The aim is to make sure the car, the funding method and the ownership plan make sense together.

  • Can you help after an accident, write-off or insurance payout?

    Yes

If your vehicle has been written off, stolen, damaged, or is being replaced through an insurance payout, Puredrive can help you think through the next vehicle decision.

That may include assessing what a suitable replacement should look like, comparing equivalent vehicles, understanding whether the payout reflects the current market, considering agreed value or market value implications, and helping you avoid rushing into the wrong car under pressure.

We can also assist with sourcing, inspecting, negotiating and coordinating the replacement vehicle, including registration, transport, accessories or handover details where required.

Where needed, we can work alongside your insurer, broker, finance provider, leasing company, accountant or mechanic so the replacement decision makes practical and financial sense.

  • Do you work with dealers, private sellers, interstate vehicles or overseas options?

    Yes.

Depending on the vehicle and the brief, Puredrive can look beyond the obvious local options. That may include dealer stock, private sellers, specialist sellers, interstate vehicles, enthusiast networks and harder-to-find examples.

Where a suitable vehicle cannot be found in Australia, we can also discuss overseas sourcing or import pathways where practical. This depends on the vehicle, compliance requirements, costs, timing and whether importing genuinely makes sense compared with local alternatives.

The right source depends on the car, the condition, the price, the risk profile and the level of support required.

  • Can you help with accessories, upgrades or personalisation?

    Yes

Many buyers want the car to be right for them after purchase, not just on the day it is bought.

Puredrive can assist with advice or coordination around accessories, wheels, tyres, suspension, brake upgrades, performance parts, touring or 4WD fit-outs, paint protection, window tinting, wraps, cosmetic improvements, interior retrimming, custom upholstery, audio upgrades and in-car technology.

That may be as simple as adding Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to an older premium car, or as involved as upgraded speakers, amplifiers, sound deadening and high-end in-car hi-fi advice.

We can also discuss more involved work such as repainting, refurbishment or recommissioning where it makes sense for the vehicle.

The goal is to avoid wasting money on poor-quality upgrades and help ensure any additions suit the car, the budget and the way you intend to use it.

  • Can you help with older or specialist cars?

    Yes

Older premium, specialist and enthusiast cars can be very rewarding, but they need to be chosen carefully.

Puredrive can help assess whether a vehicle is worth pursuing, what common issues to look for, what recommissioning may be required, and whether the overall ownership proposition makes sense.

That may include considering service history, known model issues, parts availability, inspection results, upcoming maintenance, tyres, suspension, brakes, electronics, interior condition and whether the asking price properly reflects the condition of the car.

  • What happens after I make an enquiry?

We start by understanding where you are in the buying process and what kind of help you need.

Some clients are best suited to the Vehicle Advice & Shortlist Consultation. Others are ready for Full Vehicle Sourcing & Purchase Support. In some cases, a specific add-on or advisory service may be more appropriate.

Once we understand the brief, we will explain the next step clearly before any work begins.

Sanj helped me buy a car after mine was declared a write-off. He asked me questions to understand my needs and budget, narrowed down my options, and provided insight into the full cost of the purchase.

He also helped me interact with car dealers and provided advice on inspections. Having someone knowledgeable like Sanj was well worth the investment.
